05-Dec-2012: PI PE and PG Students won 1st and 2nd place in the SPE International Education Week Competition held in conjunction with ADIPEC 2012.
PI Petroleum Engineering students Mr. Mohamad Yousef Alklih and Ms. Diana Morris and PI Petroleum Geosciences student Ms. Ruaa Abdullah, all in one team, were awarded the 1st place for their topic “World Economy Crisis Effect on Energy Business” in the 2012 SPE International Education Week Competition, held in conjunction with Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Conference and Exhibition (ADIPEC) from 9th to 13th November. In addition, PI Petroleum Engineering Student Ms. Sara Bakhti, member of another team, was awarded the 2nd place for the topic of “Alternative Energy Sources: Viability and Impact”.
During the 2012 Education week, top 91 students from 26 countries and 49 institutions majoring in Petroleum/Chemical Engineering and Geosciences were gathered, put in 11 different groups and given 5 days chance to work as future engineers on different international projects related to the Petroleum Industry. Consequently, our PI students were distributed in different groups working on different projects. Professional mentors from the industry were assigned to the groups to help them out in finalizing their projects. The groups had then to present their findings in front of experts from the Energy Sector. Ultimately, the group that showed the deepest understanding of the project and provided the most interesting presentation would win the title.
The ADIPEC SPE Education Week is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for international students to learn, experience and network with industry professionals. During the Education Week, SPE also organizes to the students several sub events including fields trips, panel sessions, career fair sessions as well as attending ADIPEC conference sessions and exhibitions.
We would like to congratulate PI students for their prestigious achievements and wish them a bright future.
