PROFILE
Mikhail Anisimov Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, The Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, UAE and Professor at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the Institute for Physical Science and Technology, University of Maryland, College Park. Before he came to US in 1994, Dr. Anisimov was Professor and Chair of the Physics Department at Gubkin Oil and Gas State Academy in Moscow, Russia.
Dr. Anisimov is an expert in thermodynamics of soft matter, critical phenomena and phase transitions. Author of more than 200 publications, including 2 books and 7 book chapters. Supervised 40 Ph.D. students. Member of Editorial Boards of 4 international research journals. Recipient of many international and US awards, including Poole and Kent Senior Teaching Award. In 1988 Dr. Anisimov was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society with the citation: “for his outstanding contributions towards a fundamental understanding of critical phenomena in fluids and fluid mixtures including complex fluids and liquid crystals”. He is also Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the International Academy of Refrigeration.
In addition to research and education, Dr. Anisimov has consulted Exxon, Shell, NASA, and other corporate and state institutions.
