The Chemical Engineering department organized sport day and 3rd annual merit award ceremony for chemical engineering students, faculty and staff (academic year 2009/2010). The event was graced by Dr. Ismail Tag (Senior Vice President and Provost, The Petroleum Institute). Dr Ismail appreciated the friendly atmosphere and spirit in which sport day competitions and award ceremonies were conducted. The event was organized by PI AIChE student chapter (Male) officer bearers under guidance of Dr. Ahmed Shoaibi and Mr. Ahmed Nafees. Dr. Ahmed Al Shoaibi was presented with a special organizer award from chemical engineering student’s side. A delicious dinner was served after the completion of award ceremony.
Chemical Engineering Sport Day
Five student teams and one faculty and staff team participated in three sports (Football, Volleyball & tug of war). Matches were played on a league basis. Faculty and staff team showed noticeable performance in football and volleyball matches. A student team comprising of chemical engineering junior student’s named “Keine Gnade” won the football cup. Volleyball cup was won by a student team named “Shabab”. Players of Winning and runner-up teams were presented with gold, silver and bronze medals by Dr. Cornelis Peters, Program Director of chemical engineering.
3rd Annual Chemical Engineering Merit Awards
Third annual chemical engineering merit awards ceremony was conducted to recognize student’s academic achievements. Outstanding chemical engineering students with GPA of 3.8 and above were honored. Four male students were honored with certificates. A separate function was also organized to honor female students of the department. Eleven female students were honored. Best chemical engineering summer internship award that carries a momentary compensation and certificate was awarded to Mr. Abdulla Jaberi, senior student of chemical engineering.
