The PI team of senior chemical engineering students joined the second National Quiz Contest held at the Zarukh building of PI on November 6 under the auspices of the AIChE Abu Dhabi Club. The team consisting of Falah Al Hamli, Ali Abdulkareem Al Hammadi, Mohammed Abutaqiya, and Mohammed Reda competed with the four leading regional universities in the UAE - American University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates University, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, and Abu Dhabi Higher Collage of Technology.
The event was conducted by Dr. Binay K. Dutta and Dr. C. S. Kannan of the chemical engineering. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Ismail Tag, Provost of the Petroleum Institute, whose eloquent and encouraging speech was a source of inspiration and motivation to all the competitors. A few faculty members from ASU, UAEU and from the PI also joined the program. The quiz questions related to five most important topics of chemical engineering - Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Reaction Engineering, Mass Transfer, and Heat Transfer. In the challenging ambience of the contest the PI team made its presence strongly felt by their easy handling of most of the questions, many of them really intriguing, and by maintaining a good position throughout and ending up with the second place merely two points behind the winning team from the UAE university. Dr. Tag awarded the prizes to the first three teams at the concluding session of the event. This was followed by capturing the memories in camera and a fresh round of socializing of the participants and audience.
