PI Students Participated in a SPE Workshop

A Petroleum Institute delegation comprising of student from chemical engineering, petroleum engineering and petroleum geosciences participated in a SPE workshop under supervision of Mr. Ahmed Nafees on Sunday, 31st October 2010. The title of the workshop was “Unleashing the Potential of Professionals in the Region: Working Hand in Hand Bridging the Gender and Generation Gap”.

His Highness Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan (Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research), H.E.Yousef Omair bin Yousef (Secretary General of Supreme Petroleum Council and ADNOC CEO), Dr. Hassa Ahmed Al Otaibah (UAE Ambassador to Spain), Ali Rashid Al Jarwan (CEO of ADMA-OPCO), Abdul Munim Al Kindy (CEO of ADCO) and delegates from GCC and other international countries participated in the workshop. PI student greatly benefited from the workshop in lieu of opportunities to exchange and discuss their opinions on the subject with UAE government’s policy makers, prolific industrial leaders and eminent industrial personalities. Workshop was organized at Beach Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

“The topic of the workshop was quite relevant and helped me to connect with the corporate world. It opened up an aspect of the industry that I knew existed but put it aside when I focused on the technical part of engineering. Engineering, as it is an occupation it is a career, and the communication part is as important”. Aside from meeting new people; other students, working moms, executive managers and essentially colleagues, the networking games were new to me. Also the round table discussion activity gave me a taste of the real world. I sat on a table with such diversity; women to men, students to executives and many nationalities. The experience of communicating problems, suggesting ways to approach them and discussing the positive views of different matters was a very fulfilling one”. Amena Adnan Hassan, Junior Student of Chemical Engineering

“The SPE workshop gave me the chance to meet talented professional who excelled in the areas of their expertise. I was able to apply what I learned in university to a simulated work experience. This conference really helped me bridge the gap between what I learn and the actual workforce. I discovered that applying the theories and practical work is different from theoretical studies. This was a very successful experience that I hope to repeat again before I enter the workforce so that I can learn and gain more experience”. Sara Al Daheri, Chemical Engineering Sophomore Student
