Facilities
The Communication Department provides a range of teaching, audio-visual and computer facilities to its faculty and students. Facilities in the department include fully-equipped communication classrooms, a computer laboratory, and a Communication Centre.
Communication
classrooms
Each classroom is well-equipped with networked computer workstations, an overhead projector, a wall-mounted screen, and a document reader. The physical design of the classrooms supports required team work and the development of communication skills. There are round tables provided for team discussion of projects and a computer workstation for each group.
Computer laboratory
Students and staff of Communication Department have access to a computer laboratory conveniently located in Room 4001 (ground floor, Umm Shaif).
Students can use the laboratory for independent work and faculty can book the laboratory for conducting classes. The laboratory has 27 networked workstations, an Epson overhead projector, two laser printers (black/white and colour), a document reader, and a wall-mounted screen. In the computer laboratory, students have access to a range of software for word-processing and presentation. Students can also access the Internet and online library services. The laboratory is manned by an IT laboratory attendant and it is open from 7.30am to 11.30pm daily.
Communication centre
In line with the PI mission of producing students who are effective oral and written communicators, the primary purpose of the Communication Centre is to provide ongoing language and communications
support, and development to PI degree level students throughout their studies at the institute. The centre will also provide language and communications training, and development services to other constituents namely; faculty, staff and the broader ADNOC community.
The Communication Centre services include the provision of structured input into the preparation, development and review of written and oral (presentations) texts required by students in the degree program. Workshops and short courses are conducted by the Communication faculty on relevant areas of language and communication. The personal consultation services available for individual students are instructor referred, planned, and developmental. The Communication Centre is located in Room 4101 (Umm Shaif).
