Research Project
Investigator - Research Initiation Funding Program: The Big Crew Change: Implications of Generation Y coming of age for ADNOC (2012, Approved, Project funding AED 47,500)
With a large and growing petroleum industry, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) needs talented human resources such as engineers, scientists and business professionals. The continuity of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (ADNOC) workforce depends on the successful recruitment, integration and retention of a new young Generation Y (Gen Y) workforce. In October 2011, a research proposal was submitted to the Petroleum Institute for funding that aims to examine the life priorities and work motivators of Gen Y professionals in ADNOC. The findings can provide greater insight into what motivates Gen Y in their spheres of life and work that can help ADNOC attract, engage and retain this young generation. This project will also provide ADNOC’s human resource managers with recommendations for the effective recruitment and retention of Gen Y professionals who play a vital role in the economic growth of the Gulf nation. The project funding is AED 47,500.
Edited Research Book Project
Co-Editor - Innovative Methods and Technologies for Electronic Discourse Analysis (2013)
Discourse analysis (DA) is the study of language in use with descriptions of language forms and patterns of interaction taking into account the contexts in which they occur. The emergence of computer-mediated communication and Web 2.0 technologies present challenges in terms of understanding the new communicative contexts and the interaction of various media in shaping meaning and language use. Advances in DA methodology have been made in response to new media but there is a need to critically reflect on recent innovations in the theory and application of electronic DA methods from empirical studies and identify what works and what does not.
The objectives of this book are to disseminate the challenges and successes in the search for innovative and effective methods of DA for understanding the new communicative contexts and the interaction of various media in shaping meaning and patterns of language use. This edited book will showcase studies, using qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodologies, where the application of DA methods to electronic discourse is rigorously grounded in theoretical frameworks, and where research on discourse from new media highlight the implications for theory and practice.
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global, publisher of the “Information Science Reference”, “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints. This publication is anticipated to be released in 2013.
