Experience

Robert Craig was born and educated in Britain and attended the universities of Sheffield, London, and Essex. He first began teaching at a comprehensive school in Sheffield, 1975. Two years later he found himself teaching English, this time as a foreign language, in a secondary school in the Sharqia region of the Sultanate of Oman. This was followed by a one year stint at the British Council, in Muscat before returning to the UK for further study. After a very interesting year at the Institute of Education in London he worked for 5 years on an ELT project in Angola before returning to the UK, and after completing his MA he began working at the English Language Matriculation Unit in Brunei, in 1988, this time teaching EAP. His next position was with the UAE Armed Forces and Air Defense, designing and teaching academic and occupational English courses for the School of Fighter Control. Robert’s next position at Zayed University in Abu Dhabi, saw a return to EAP, and an opportunity to continue his interests in curriculum design and language assessment. His nine years in the UAE was interrupted briefly by two semesters at the Center for Academic Development and Study Skills, (CADSS) at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco, before returning to Abu Dhabi to work for The Petroleum Institute in 2002.

 
Research Interests

The integration of content and language, effective communication, collaborative learning, outcomes based curriculum design, and assessment.
