The primary mission of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Petroleum Institute is to prepare its students to meet current and future needs of the energy industry and to become productive Electrical Engineering professionals. In addition, the department strives to enhance and expand the knowledge in Electrical Engineering by conducting research and scholarly activity and to be of service to the community and the profession by sharing the expertise of its personnel.
The Department of Electrical Engineering maintains a connection to the community and constituencies through its Advisory Board (EE AB), the purpose of which is to provide external counsel to the Department in support of its teaching, research and service missions. The EE AB meets in formal sessions twice a year; at least one meeting each year is mandatory.
The EE AB offers advice to the PI President, the Chair of the Department of the Electrical Engineering, and the Faculty on strategies and means of developing resources for enhancing the goals of the Department.
The EE AB assists in promoting the Department to potential students, employers, community leaders, governmental agencies and industry.
The EE AB is guided by its Chair, who is elected by the board members for a two year term. Members are appointed to two-year renewable terms, staggered for continuity.
At the meetings of the EE AB, members interact with the Department Chair, Faculty and Staff on issues of mutual interest/concern. Discussions are held on Department goals and objectives, educational trends, development, research opportunities, budgets, enrollments, degrees, accreditation and other related topics. Members of the EE AB also provide support throughout the year for many of the Department’s specific initiatives and programs.
