EE Focus Groups (EEFG)

To help enhance the effectiveness of the EE assessment process of the Program Outcomes, focus groups are used as another supporting tool to the assessment process. All EE courses are divided into five (5) areas:

  • Digital Systems, Signal Processing, and Programming;
  • Instrumentation and Control;
  • Circuits and Electronics;
  • Power Engineering; and
  • Design.

The table below shows the focus groups, the associated courses, and the names of the members of the focus group. Based on their choice and areas of expertise, faculty members become members of 1-3 focus groups.  At the end of each semester the course portfolios for each of the courses that were offered that semester are submitted and are cross-checked by the Adhoc Committee. Each Focus Group coordinator schedules meetings for her/his focus group to discuss each of the courses within the Group’s area. The meeting also involves the instructor(s) who taught the course. The focus group’s coordinator completes a Course Assessment Form (CAF), which provides:

  • review comments on whether the Program Outcomes associated with the course have been effectively assessed;
  • an analysis of the results related to the degree of achievement of the related Program Outcomes;
  • related suggestions and recommendations on ways and means to remedy issues raised through the assessment results; and
  • other general recommendations on the course (e.g., suggested change of the course objectives and/or assessment measures, etc.).

The EE ABET Committee analyzes the CAF files and shares the results with the Department faculty. As a result of the review process, suggestions are made to the EE faculty/curriculum committee (e.g., change of course prerequisite), ABET Committee (change the course outcomes and/or assessment measures), and/or to the instructor who will be teaching the course in the following semester. All shares the responsibility to consider each recommendation for implementation and to make decisions in a timely manner.
