The Chairman's Message

Welcome to the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department at The Petroleum Institute. We in the EE department are committed to providing a world class education and research in electrical engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, through student oriented activities and excellence of faculty, staff, graduate students, and facilities.

The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a curriculum which focuses on the electrical engineering fundamentals with extensive laboratory experience to strengthen the principles and concepts used in the classroom, design experiences to apply learned knowledge to solve real-world problems, and the skills development for leadership and teamwork. In addition, it emphasizes the development of computer and oral and written communication skills of its students.

We also offer high quality graduate programs that include fundamentals and emerging technologies and their applications, and strive to perform high quality research driven by our highly qualified faculty, research staff, and graduate students. The EE programs are designed to prepare its students for a professional career in electrical engineering practice and/or a career in design or research and development.

The program is open to qualified UAE nationals, and selected non-nationals. It emphasizes power engineering, automation and control, and instrumentation and measurements. The EE faculty work very closely with students and offer help sessions and academic counseling. The first batch graduated with Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees in Electrical Engineering in June 2005. We began admitting women in 2006 and have begun our graduate program in 2007.

EE faculty members have won prestigious teaching awards and are distinguished for their research contributions. Our students have won awards at both the national and international levels. Our lab engineers have been complemented by external agencies for their high quality work. Our laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, and software tools for teaching and research. We have the resources and commitment of our founder the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its partners BP, Shell, Total and JODCO to be a premier electrical engineering program.

The EE Department emboldens ongoing technical interactions with industry and collaboration with other EE Departments world-wide. Such interactions are becoming increasingly important in maintaining the vitality of our graduate research programs.
