	Dr. Shib Sankar Saha served as member of the Technical Program Committee (TPC) at The International Power Electronics Conference, IPEC-Sapporo 2010 to be held from June 21 to 24, 2010, at Sapporo Convention Center, Sapporo, Japan which was sponsored by the Industry Applications Society of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, and co-sponsored by the IEEE Power Electronics Society.
	Dr. Lisa Lamont, Assistant Professor was a member of the steering committee of the 1st Engineering Student Renewable Energy Competition (ESREC), held at the UAE University in Al-Ain, UAE, and sponsored mainly by ADNOC and partially by MASDAR and General Electric, May 2010.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib, Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department was appointed by the IEEE/PES at the International level as a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE/PES, April 2010.
	Dr. Lisa Lamont, Assistant Professor, made a conference presentation at the IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution in April 2010, New Orleans, USA.
	Dr. Lisa Lamont and Dr. Lana El Chaar were part of the PI EE Department team honored by ADNOC for their contribution to ADNOC's participation in the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2010, where they guided a student team in a project titled “Automated Photovoltaic Self-Cleaning and Bird Deterring System” which was presented in an exhibition held alongside WFES 2010. Both faculties have been working on several renewable energy projects with ADMA-OPCO. The recognition ceremony was held at ADMA-OPCO and attended by Mr. Mohammed Butti Al Qubaisi, Deputy Director Exploration & Production – ADNOC, along with General Management teams of OPCOs.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar, Assistant Professor, chaired the session of Solar Energy application at the International Conference on Renewable Energy: Generation and Application (ICREGA’10) held at The UAE University in March 2010.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar, Assistant Professor, made a conference presentation at the International Conference on Renewable Energy and Power Quality (ICREPQ’10) in March 2010, Spain.
	Dr. Majid Poshtan, Assistant Professor and Mr. Mohamed Ghazi, a PI-EE graduate, received the 2009 ADCO Paper Award for “An Intelligent Distributed Autonomous Electric Energy System for the UAE,” February 2010.
	Dr. Abdul-Rahiman Beig, Assistant Professor received the 2009 PI Teaching Award for Junior Faculty, January 2010.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar, Assistant Professor received the PI 2009 Service Award for an Outstanding Faculty Member, January 2010.
	Dr. Lisa Lamont, Assistant Professor received the PI 2009 Award for Excellence in Academic Advising, January 2010.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib, gave an invited presentation “Demand-Side Management and Energy Efficiency in Buildings,” at the Workshop on Energy Efficiency and Integration of Solar Energy Technologies in Buildings, Tripoli, Libya. The workshop was sponsored by The Center of Solar Energy Studies and Research; The General Committee for Utilities; Housing and Utilities Facility; Administrative Buildings Development Facility; The National Center for Specifications and Metrology, January 2010.
	Three EE faculty members (Dr. Lana El Chaar, Dr. Abdul Rahiman Beig, Dr. Lisa Lamont) have recently received major PI-Excellence Awards at the PI 2009 Commencement Celebration. Read more.

2009

	Dr. Qi (Charles) Su, Professor of Electrical Engineering at the PI, has recently co-authored a book with Professor Ron James of University of NSW, Sydney. The book entitled “Condition Assessment of High Voltage Insulation in Power System Equipment” is published by Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET) Press. It is expected to have a great impact in the field of insulation condition assessment in Europe, Asia and Pacific-Ocean countries.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib, Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department had his work in the area of energy and power recognized and appreciated by the IEEE/PES. He was awarded the “Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award” by the President of the IEEE/PES “For Leadership and Excellence in Power Engineering Research, Outstanding Contributions to the Power and Energy Education, and Dedicated Service to the Engineering Profession.” The picture above shows Dr. El-Keib receiving the award from IEEE/PES president, Mrs. Wanda Reder, during the opening ceremony of an IEEE/PES event at the Petroleum Institute, which was held October 28-30, 2009. The event included the IEEE/PES Executive Committee fall 2009 meeting at the PI. The meeting was the first held outside of North America in the Middle East and Africa. 	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib served as member of the Program Committee, 3rd International Conference on Signals, Circuits and Systems, which took place in DJerba, Tunisia during November 12-15, 2009.
	Dr. Abdel-Rahiman Beig, Dr. Lana El Chaar, Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib, serve as members of the Scientific Committee, International Conference on Electric Power and Energy Conversion Systems, Sharjah, UAE, to be held November 10-12, 2009.
	Dr. Ehab El-Saadany served as member of the Technical Program committee member; International Conference on Electric Power and Energy Conversion Systems, November 10-12 2009, Sharjah, UAE.
	Dr. Charles Su gave an invited key-note speech, titled “Condition monitoring of electrical plant – how to interpret the data and diagnose incipient faults,” at the International Conference on Machines 2009, Sydney, Australia, November 2009.
	Dr. Ehab El-Saadany served as member of the Technical Program committee member; International Conference on Signals, Circuits and Systems (SCS 2009), November 6-9 2009, Djerba, Tunisia.
	Dr. Ehab El-Saadany gave an invited seminar titled “Distributed Generation; Between Benefits and Challenges” at the IEEE Power & Energy Society Dubai Chapter, American University in Sharjah, October 21, 2009.
	Dr. Mahmoud Meribout served as member of the Technical Program Committee, Journal of Networks, special issue on Wireless Sensor Network: Theory and Practice (ISNN: 1796-2056, Volume: 4, Issue: 6, August 2009), Academy Publisher.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar, Assistant Professor, has been appointed Associate Editor, IEEE Transactions on Education, Power Systems & Apparatus Education, in September 2009.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar, Assistant Professor, chaired the session of Solar Energy application at the International Conference on Electric Power and Energy Conversion Systems (EPECS 09), held at the American University of Sharjah, November 2009.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib gave an invited presentation “Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency: A Case Study,” at The Workshop on Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency, February 2009. The workshop was sponsored by the Arab League- Arab Electricity Ministers Council, the Arab Union of Producers, Transporters and Distributors of Electricity, the General Electric Power Company of Libya, and the Euro –Mediterranean Energy Market Integration Project (MED-EMIP).
	Dr. Mahmoud Meribout, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering was invited to and served as an External Examiner for a PhD dissertation at University Blaise Pascal of Science & Technologies, Clermont Ferrand, France, which took place on November 25, 2009. The title of the dissertation was “Design of a Low-Cost Localization System using GPS.”
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib was recognized by the PI for receiving the “Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award” by the President of the IEEE/PES. Read more.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib, Chair of the Electrical Engineering Department was recognized at the General Meeting of the IEEE/PES held in Calgary, Canada in July 2009 for his Distinguished Service to the IEEE/PES/Energy Development and Power Generation Committee. He was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the President of the IEEE/PES and issued by the IEEE Power and Energy Society, Energy Development and Power Generation Committee “in Recognition of Distinguished Service to the Energy Development and Power Generation Committee and for Co-Organizing and Chairing a Panel Session on International Practices in Demand Side Management: Practices and Barriers at the 2009 General Meeting in Calgary, Canada in July 2009.”
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib organized and chaired “Demand-Side Management: International Practices and Barriers,” a Panel involving renowned researchers and practitioners from seven countries (US, Canada, India, S. Korea, Denmark, New Zealand, and S. Africa), the IEEE/PES General Meeting, Calgary, July 2009.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib served as member of the International Advisory Board, the 3rd International Conference on Modeling, Simulation and Applied Optimization, to be held January 20-22, 2009 , Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
	Dr. Abdurrahim El-Keib served as a member on the Technical Program Committee for the 2009 IEEE/PES T&D Asia Conference and Exposition, the IEEE/PES, Seoul, S. Korea.
	Dr. Mahmoud Meribout served as a member of the Technical Program Committee, National Digital Imaging Student Competition, organized by Khalifa University of Science, Technology, and Research, Abu Dhabi, 2009.
	Dr. Mahmoud Meribout served as a member of the Technical Program Committee, IEEE International Conference on Communications, Computer, and Power (ICCCP’09), Muscat, Oman, February 2009.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar was interviewed by a German TV station (Astra) during Abu Dhabi Green Building Conference. The topic of the interview was Solar Energy in the UAE.
	Dr. Lisa Lamont gave an invited presentation at the World Sustainable Energy Days, in Wels, Austria, in February 2009, “Renewable Engineering for Multidisciplinary Female Engineers in the UAE”.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar, Assistant Professor, chaired the session “Energy and Vehicular Technologies” at the 5th IEEE GCC Conference and Exhibition, March 17-19, 2009, Kuwait.
	Dr. Lisa Lamont was interviewed by Radio Osterreich 1 (Mag. Barbara Daser) on the subject of Women in Renewable Energy during World Sustainable Energy Days, Wels Austria, February 2009.
	Dr. Ehab El-Saadany was keynote speaker at the International Conference on Communication, Computer & Power (ICCCP’09), Muscat, Oman, February 2009.
	Dr. Lana El Chaar and Dr. Lisa Lamont were interviewed by the National newspaper on Dust Cleaning systems for PV. The article was published on Sunday June 28, 2009.
	Dr. Uwe Kruger served as Program Committee Member of IET Irish Systems and Signals Conference 2009, Dublin, June 10 – 11, 2009.
	Mr. Leslie Dias has received an award for his valuable contributions to the department.
	Eng. Mohammad Al Ani has received an award for his valuable contributions toward lab development.
	Eng. Mohammad Serhan has received an award for his valuable contributions to the 4th IEEE student competitions.

2008

	Dr. Mahmoud Meribout served as a member of the Technical Program Committee, the 2nd IEEE International Conference on New Technologies, Mobility, and Security (NTMS’2008), Tangier, Morocco, November 2008.
	Dr. Majid Poshtan gave an invited talk at the Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (TRNASCO), Abu Dhabi, UAE on November 4, 2008. The talk revolved on the subject of improving the Power Transmission System Reliability and Stability.
	Dr. Majid Poshtan invited to give a talk at TRNASCO, UAE, on November 4, 2008; the talk was on how to improve the Power Transmission System Reliability and Stability.
	Dr. Lana was invited to speak at the “Power System Conference”, South Carolina, USA, in March of 2008.

	Dr. Majid Poshtan received the Faculty Service Award at the 2008 PI Annual Awards.

	Dr. Uwe Kruger gave an invited presentation at the 4th International Congress on Welding Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering, Saltillo, Mexico, November 2008. The title of his presentation was “Multivariate Statistical Process Monitoring for the Manufacturing Industry – Basics and Beyond”.
	Dr. Majid Poshtan chaired a Technical Session at 2nd International Conference on Power and Energy, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Dec. 2008.
	Dr. Abdel-Rahiman Beig chaired the technical session at the Joint International Conference on Power System Technology and IEEE Power India Conference, POWERCON 2008, 12-15 October 2008.
	Dr. Abdel-Rahiman Beig chaired the technical session on Multilevel Converters at the 34th IEEE International Annual conference of the Industrial Electronics Society -IECON 2008, Orlando, Fl., USA, November 2008.
