Dr. Beig has excellent industrial experience especially in the design of inverters; DSP/FPGA based embedded controllers and development of control algorithms for electric drives. From 1989 to 1992, he was with M/S Kirloskar Electric Company, Ltd, Mysore, India, as a R&D Engineer with the design team of BLDC drive, which received the best indigenous product design award by IEEMA, New Delhi, India. He later joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, NITK Suratkal.  His professional  activities at NITK include teaching, research, industrial consultancy work, modernization and restructuring of undergraduate laboratories, setting up of post graduate and research laboratories,  supervising the post graduate and PhD research theses. In addition to this he has actively participated in introducing new post graduate program and revising undergraduate curriculum. He was responsible for setting up of energy audit laboratory, electric drives laboratory, embedded controllers laboratory under the World Bank –Govt. of India funded project TEQIP. He was successful in obtaining the research grants from various sources including MHRD and DST, Govt. of INDIA. He has organized several short term courses for industries under continuing education program.

Dr Beig has been involved in teaching and research in power Electronics, electric drives, power quality and power electronic applications to power systems. His current research work is focused on multilevel inverters and its applications to VSI fed and CSI fed induction motor drives. He has several publications in this area.  He is Senior Member, IEEE and actively involved in IEEE activities. He is reviewer for IEEE-Industrial Electronics Transaction papers and also reviewed several IEEE international conference papers.
