It is obvious that the Petroleum Institute has well known and experienced instructors, who show great interest in the success of their students. The PI’s labs are well equipped, which gives us the opportunity to develop important test models at high levels of sophistication. I am currently a full-time employee, and due to my job being at a remote site (far from any university), I thought I would not be able to pursue further education. But thanks to the e-learning system at the PI, I’m able to attend lectures via live broadcast (with the ability to interact with the instructor and students in many ways), and so I’m now pursuing a Master of Science degree here at the PI, the very place I graduated BSc from.

This is my second year in MSc at The Petroleum Institute. It is indeed a privilege to study under such distinguished instructors; the outstanding education and research expertise this Institute possesses and offers is a boost to one’s career in academia. I found it of great help as I also plan to pursue a PhD after my MSc. And with the help of the new e-learning system, even remotely located students can join the program and pursue higher studies. The availability of recorded lectures is also of immense help to us. The well equipped labs, the well organized and updated program, and most importantly the dedicated faculty and staff are key things that make the Electrical Engineering program at the PI stand out in the region and worthy of top rank.

I have benefited a great deal from the Post Graduate program at PI. Through this program I got education, skills and knowledge that enhanced my professional career. Here I got the chance to explore alternative solutions to complicated engineering problems faced at both the industry and research levels. The technological facilities such as the new e-learning system which offers live broadcast lectures and lecture recordings, and the Blackboard learning management system, greatly enhanced our educational experience and helped keep us up to date on all course material. The Program has progressed a lot since its opening, and it looks like there is more to come, and I hope that many will have the chance to benefit from it.

I started with the Masters program in fall 2007, and in the beginning I found it quit challenging especially, as it had been a long time ago that I studied. The great thing with PI was that the professors are always willing to spend extra time with you and when you’re working you can’t always attend the classes.  All lectures are recorded and handouts and assignments are available on the PI website, which allows you to combine a full time job with studying at PI. The atmosphere is good and it’s a great way to make new contacts in the industry! The material which is lectured is closely matched with the needs of the present day industry and provides a good opportunity to develop your carrier.

The Electrical Engineering Postgraduate program at the PI offers courses that reflect the needs of the industry. The affiliation between the PI and ADNOC group of companies has opened the door for researching many potential areas of improvement in the industry, providing mutual benefit to both the industry and that faculty and students undertaking research. Students enrolled in the program have access to state of the art lab facilities which allow for performing experiments at the research level. The program is also enhanced by the (online) e-learning system which allows us to follow lectures live when on travel or so, as well as view lecture recordings. The Blackboard is also very useful and efficient in delivering course material to us. The assigned text books and other material not only help us with the courses, but also serve as a good reference to the engineer in industry. The program is supported by a dedicated group of faculty and staff that will not hesitate to help you when in need.
