17/01/2011: Dr. Asli Hassan's Completion of her Doctorate Degree
Asli Hassan, AUP English, completed her Ph.D. in Language, Literacy and Culture from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The title of her dissertation is “Lesson Study: A professional development approach for university language, mathematics and science teachers”. The purpose of this study was to establish and analyze the impact of a collaborative professional development program across the disciplines of the faculty of the PI’s AUP Program. In the study, science, mathematics and English teachers collaboratively developed and taught integrated lessons, observed these lessons being taught, discussed their impacts upon students, then revised and re-taught the lessons with a new group of students. Her study was the first to report on the use of lesson study to integrate language and content instruction in a university preparatory program.
