Academic Libraries in the UAE
American University in Dubai
The AUD Library provides a collection of print and electronic resources focusing on areas relating to programs offered at AUD. Over 50 research databases are provided, and research guides are available for each major degree program.
American University of Sharjah
The AUS Library offers many types of materials. In addition to its general, reference and periodical collections, it has databases and an e-book collection, multi-media collection, an Arabic collection, a special collections, and a university archives.
Higher Colleges of Technology
Each college within the Higher Colleges of Technology system features a Library & Learning Centre, which provides resources that support the curriculum and services that develop and foster independent learning and information literacy.
United Arab Emirates University Library Deanship
The library subscribes to over 7,000 e-journals and 500 databases. It also has an extensive collection of materials relating to and published in the UAE and Gulf region, with hundreds of titles dating back to the 17th century. There is a bilingual catalog, and collection has a 2:1 ratio of Arabic to English.
Zayed University (Women Only)
With locations in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the library and learning resources collections include general, reference, periodicals, databases, and an Emirates collection.
International Academic Petroleum Engineering Libraries
Colorado School of Mines
The Arthur Lakes Library of the Colorado School of Mines is a specialized technical library for information in engineering, and associated engineering and science fields. It is also a selective depository for U.S.A. and Colorado state publications.
King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals
The library supports academic and research programs of the university. Materials and services are provided both in print and electronic formats in all subject areas, particularly in science and engineering.
Texas A&M University
The university's general academic library, the Sterling C. Evans Library, serves many of the university's departments, including the Dwight Look College of Engineering
The University of Texas at Austin
The university hosts a main interdisciplinary library, and a number of branch libraries catering to specific departments. Branch libraries of specific interest to the petroleum industry are the Mallet Chemistry Library, the McKinney Engineering Library, and the Walter Geology Library.
Company Libraries
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC)
The ADNOC Library collection includes reference and circulating materials, journals, AV materials, company brochures, and an ADNOC archives. There are also links to some electronic materials such as IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Standards.
Public Libraries in the UAE
Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR)
ECSSR is located in Abu Dhabi. It was established to enhance understanding of political and socio-economic forces shaping the Gulf region, to help identify and define the national security priorities of the United Arab Emirates, and to assist policy makers in assessing policy options confronting the nation. The center is dedicated to the promotion of professional research and educational excellence in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf region.
Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (Cultural Foundation)
The Cultural Foundation houses the UAE National Library, which incorporates a collection of nearly two million volumes and four thousand old manuscripts. The UAE National Archives itself is located on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi.
Dubai Public Library
The library includes halls for Arabic and English books, references and periodicals, audio-visual materials and Internet. The circle of beneficiaries of the library’s services includes all Dubai municipality employees plus the citizens and residents in Duabi Emirate and other emirates.
Sharjah Public Library
The library lies in the Muailiah area on the edge of University City in Sharjah. It opens it doors to all members of society with no conditions for entering and making use of library resources. The library contains more than 300,000 volumes. There are internet facilities with separate areas for men and women. The library also has 3 branch locations.
