  • PhD, University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, 2007

Islam Md. Didarul joins PI as a research associate with the extensive knowledge on heat transfer engineering. He received his PhD in material, structural and energy engineering from University of the Ryukyus of Okinawa which is one of the biggest and famous university in Japan. His PhD research work focused on the study of heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of rectangular finned surface in duct. T type thermocouples and an infrared camera, TVS 8000 with indium-antimony (In-Sb) sensor, which can measure the temperature at 160 ´ 120 points with a resolution of 0.025ºC for a black body were extensively used to observe the temperature distributions and the detailed heat transfer of four different fin patterns and several arrangements of rectangular fins in the narrow duct. Among the four different patterns (co-angular, zigzag, co-rotating and co-counter rotating) co-rotating type with pitch ratio 2 showed best configuration for heat transfer enhancement in the narrow channel. Several flow visualization technique (Fluorescent dye flow in water channel, Oil titanium Oxide film flow, Smoke flow etc.) were used to observe the flow pattern around the fins in the duct.

Dr. Islam worked more than 9 years as a lecturer and an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, a center of excellence in the northern part of Bangladesh. He has extensive teaching background on advanced heat and mass transfer, refrigeration and air conditioning, solid mechanics and renewable energy. At his career, Dr. Islam supervised project works of many undergraduate students and published more than 30 Research articles including Reputed Journal papers and International Conference papers.
