Undergraduate Program Objectives
The educational objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Program at The Petroleum Institute are driven from the Institutional Mission statement, the Institutional Goals, and the Institutional Profile of the PI Graduate and they are as follows:
- Provide an integrated experience to develop skills for responsible team work, effective communication skills, and life-long learning to prepare our graduates for successful careers in mechanical engineering with a particular focus on applications in the petroleum and energy industries.
- Provide a broad education, well grounded in the fundamental principles of science and engineering, which enables students to successfully solve mechanical engineering problems and progress rapidly towards the satisfactory attainment of sponsor’s competency targets.
- Educate conscientious mechanical engineers of diverse backgrounds capable of becoming leaders in their respective field of expertise who understand their ethical and professional responsibilities and the impact of engineering solutions on society and the environment.
- Provide students with practical design, internship, and research experiences through partnership with our sponsoring industry and/or through collaboration with international institutions.
