Abukari Iddris holds a B.S and M.S Degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Prior to joining The Petroleum Institute, he worked with the Department of Petroleum Engineering at KFUPM for 19 years. During this time, he instructed laboratory courses in Drilling Fluid, Cementing and Drilling Simulation using a Derrick Floor Drilling Simulator. He also assisted in instructing main courses such as Drilling Engineering and the Introduction to Petroleum Engineering. He developed laboratory instructional manuals for the courses he taught as well as supervised research experiments for Senior Level and Graduate (Masters) students. He participated in industry-funded research projects for companies such as SAUDI ARAMCO and KACST and performed experimental tests as funded technical service for research laboratories such as the SAUDI ARAMCO's R&D Center.
He has been an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International since 1983 and has served on the Program and Membership Committees for the Local Chapter of the Saudi Arabian Section of the SPE. He was also the Area Liaison for the Local Chapter.
Currently, he is in charge of the Drilling Fluid and Drilling Simulator laboratories where he instructs laboratory sessions in Drilling fluid property measurements and Drilling Simulator sessions in Drilling, Well Control, Cementing and Work-Over operations. He is also involved in establishing a Cementing laboratory as well as instructional manuals for the laboratory sessions.
