Dr. Hadi Belhaj is an Associate Professor with the Petroleum Institute teaching varieties of petroleum engineering courses; from Reservoir / Engineering / Characterization / Modeling to Petroleum Economics / Risk & Decision Analyses to Workover and Well Drilling & Completion. Dr. Belhaj is a Principal Investigator of different Research Projects on varieties of upstream petroleum industry research aspects funded and supported nationally and internationally. He is involved in novel techniques of reservoir characterization and EOR as well.
Dr. Belhaj came long way with tremendous industrial/academic petroleum engineering background: Completed his B.Sc. in 1982 from Al-Fateh University, Tripoli, M.Sc. in 1990 from Technical University of Nova Scotia, Canada and Ph.D. in 2004 from Dalhousie University, Canada, all in Petroleum Engineering. In between school periods, he worked with Schlumberger and the Libyan NOC with an exposure to the oil industry at large from both service and operating companies prospective. Upon completion of his Ph.D. he enjoyed a fresh taste of work experience with SMART International - Canada, Dalhousie University and Texas Tech University. Research Associate, Petroleum Engineering Consultant and Petroleum Engineering Faculty are the key positions he held during this period.
Dr. Belhaj’s expertise is focused, but not limited, to reservoir simulation & management, production technologies & IOR, petroleum economics & risk analysis and drilling & well completion. Geographically, his experience is spread over North America, Europe, North Africa, Asia and the Middle-East. Dr. Belhaj is a registered professional engineer and active member of several professional societies and organizations around the globe. He participated four provisional patent disclosures that have direct applications to the oil industry (BP America has sponsored one).
Dr. Belhaj provides training and consultations services to the oil industry. He is an active member of OBC and CAMS training programs; dedicated year-round training programs prepared for the oil industry engineers in the UAE sponsored by ADNOC and Opco’s. Also, he designs and delivers specific training and consultation programs in regu to the petroleum industry in Asia, Middle East, North Africa and North America.
During the past 15 years, Dr. Belhaj has contributed a number of consortium research proposals dealt with petroleum engineering and energy exploitation challenging issues. This effort generated over $16 Millions of research grants. He is an active SPE member and serves as a Technical Editor for SPE Journals and other credible petroleum journals. Dr. Belhaj served as a member of the PRC/NOC Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on petroleum Engineering (1990-2001). He has presented over 60 guest speaker lectures, seminars and workshops for both industry and academia covering different aspects of petroleum engineering. Dr. Belhaj co-authored two books on reservoir simulation & modeling technologies and has published more than 80 articles.
