2005-2006 PI Graduation Ceremony held on
June 19, 2006 at theOfficers Club,
43 students received their Bachelor in
Science degree from The Petroleum Institute at the ceremony.

Fugro-Jason completes training on petroleum industry
geosciences software,
12 participants from ADCO, the PI and
other companies in the region took part
in Jason's 5-day JGW001 course. This course
provided an introduction to Jason's
Workbench, Earthmodel, Invertrace and
Wavelets.

Petroleum Geosciences is pleased to
announce that the Commission for
Academic Accreditation, UAE Ministry of
Higher Education, has approved Initial Accreditation for the
program Bachelor of Science PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES effective 1
May 2006.
Petroleum Geosciences OPEN Day held on May 8, 2006. Students,
staff and PI faculty had the opportunity
to see dinosaur bones, precious minerals
and fossils, shoot seismic and see
inside a reservoir in our OPEN Day held at
The Petroleum Institute.

Partex Oil and Gas field trip.
Senior students Hani, Abdulla, and
Hamdan and Prof. Winn were guests of
Partex Oil and Gas from 2-7 April
2006. During the trip they visited
historical sites in Lisbon and the
surrounding area, took a geological
field trip to the Arrábida mountain
chain, and had a guided visit to the
Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. They also
heard talks at the Instituto Superior
Téchnico on seismic and reservoir
modeling. Highlights of the trip were
seeing dinosaur footprints and sampling
Portugal’s seafood!

26-28, 2006 Dr. Sandra Vega will
participate and present "Study of rock
properties and EM response of the Miami
Oolitic Limestone" in The Sound of
Geology Workshop, Bergen, Norway
organized by The Centre for Integrated
Petroleum Research.

Why is it possible to assess
permeability in carbonate reservoirs
using seismic data? ESG talk by Dr.
Y.F. Sun, took place on April 16,
2006, 7:30 pm in ADCO Auditorium. Dr.
Sun’s lecture presented the basic
principles of the carbonate rock physics
that are the key to obtain permeability
from seismic data.
