Dr Stephen Lokier will be convening a session entitled ‘Sedimentary processes in modern and ancient carbonate systems’ at this years European Geosciences Union General Assembly, Vienna, Austria 19-24 April

This session will bring together scientists working on sedimentary processes associated with the development of modern and ancient carbonate platform systems. The session will give new insights into:
- The effects of external parameters on carbonate depositional systems.
- Internal feedback mechanisms as a role of influencing carbonate sedimentation.
- Quantitative estimates of carbonate sediment production and accumulation rates.
- Carbonate platform development in mixed carbonate-evaporite and carbonate-siliciclastic settings.
- Carbonate sedimentation is stressed environments.

On 24th of March, 2009 Dr Stephen Lokier presented a guest lecture entitled ‘New Sedimentological Research Activity Along the Abu Dhabi Coastline’, to the Emirates Society of Geosciences (ESG) in Abu Dhabi. During his talk Dr Lokier presented new results detailing the complex facies geometries and sedimentary systems of this complex mixed carbonate-evaporite setting.

The PI SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) Student Chapter, becomes the newest student chapter as they get approved by the SEG Executive Committee. Ms. Melissa Brown, SEG University and Student Programs Coordinator informed the PI on Thursday April 2, 2009.

Dr. Thomas Steuber has been appointed as Chairman of Petroleum Geosciences on March 24th, 2009.
