PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES PROGRAM

On Saturday the 7th of November a group of students from the Petroleum Institute AAPG Female Student Chapter took part in a social event visiting the Sharjah Museum of Natural History and the Sharjah Botanical Museum and Wildlife Centre.
At the Museum of Natural History we had a guided tour of the museums extensive displays of plants, animals, rock and fossils. The interactive displays brought many of the exhibits to life, though thankfully the large dinosaur skeleton stayed firmly on its pedestal.
Next we visited the nearby Sharjah Botanical Museum and Wildlife Centre. Here we was a wide range of wild animals (mammals, reptiles, fish and insects), some common to the UAE but many originating from outside the region. One of the highlights for the students was to get-up-close sand cats, foxes, porcupines, hedgehogs and a mongoose.
An enjoyable day was had by all.
