Curriculum
Undergraduate Curriculum with credit hours The undergraduate curriculum of the Petroleum Geosciences Program provides students with a rigorous education in the fundamentals of geology and geophysics and prepares graduates for successful professional careers in petroleum exploration and reservoir management.
Students, after successively completing a Foundation Program, take common basic science, calculus, and communications courses their 1st year. Students take increasingly Program-specific courses starting in Year 2. A highlight of the program is a summer Field Petroleum Geology course in Italy. See course descriptions and flow chart for more information
Strengths of the Petroleum Geoscience curriculum include an emphasis on geoscience project work and use of modern software applications. An additional strong point is the development of “soft skills” during coursework. Petroleum Geosciences laboratories are well-equipped and include a computer laboratory and up-to-date geophysical equipment. The Petroleum Geosciences Program is open to qualified UAE nationals and select non-nationals, and began admitting women in 2006. Please see The Petroleum Institute homepage for application procedures.
