The Ph.D. Program

PI is working towards the initiation of its own Ph.D. program which is expected to be launched in the near future. Outstanding graduate students will have the opportunity to continue for a Ph.D. degree.

PI welcomes visiting PhD graduate students from other universities to work on exciting research projects under the supervision of a PI faculty.

Admission policy and procedures for visiting PhD students

Visiting PhD students from highly reputable international Universities are admitted at PI to work on specific research projects of immediate interest to PI’s industrial sponsors. A relevant project description by the faculty to supervise the visiting student and a budget support is required prior to approval. The PI project should be in line with the visiting student’s PhD research area.

  • GPA requirement: Minimum 3.0/4.0 or equivalent in their B.Sc./B.Eng. and M.Sc./M.Eng. studies. Applicants from Universities with a different grading system will be treated on a case by case basis.

  • English proficiency: Minimum TOEFL score of 530 or equivalent.

  • A minimum level of communication ability is required from graduate students not only for research and teaching purposes but also for social activities as well. The English proficiency requirement for the following categories of applicants is exempted:

    • For native English speakers.
    • For students admitted to and received their undergraduate or graduate (M.Sc. level) education from an institution in a country where English is the official language.
    • For students from countries where English is not the official language, if the Department Graduate Committee approves their English language ability based on phone interview.

  • Accommodation: Visiting graduate students will be accommodated in PI Hostel (male students only).

  • Air Ticket: Economy return air ticket will be provided

  • Duration: Visiting graduate students are expected to stay at PI for a minimum period of 6 months and a maximum of 3 years. Initial contract can be up to 1 year. Appropriate justification is needed from the research supervisor and the Department Chair for visits longer than a year. At the end of the stay, an activity report should be submitted to the Graduate School.

  • Stipend: Basic monthly stipend will be provided in accordance with full-time graduate student scheme.

  • Hiring Procedure: All applications and hiring actions have to go through the Department Graduate Committee as follows:

    • Submit Visiting GRTA application directly to <Chair of Department Graduate Committee>. Application material is the same as those for degree seeking students.
    • <Department Graduate Committee> reviews the application and makes a decision.
    • <Department Chair> initiates “Hiring Action” upon Department Graduate Committee’s recommendation and sends it to <The Graduate School> for final approval.

  • Intellectual Property Rights: Visiting PhD students are expected to work in research projects of immediate interest and importance to ADNOC and its OPCOs. Consequently, they should be expected to sign a confidentiality agreement related to their work at PI. Based on the agreement, some or all of the research work performed at PI may not be used toward their PhD thesis. Details will be provided by the PI faculty in charge of the project to the Department Chair and the Graduate School, prior to the visit.
