Working for the PI

The Petroleum Institute (PI) was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a recognized institution in engineering education and research in areas of significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy industries. The PI grants both BS and MEng/MSc degrees in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering and Petroleum Geosciences with plans to start the PhD program by 2011. The PI’s sponsors include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and four major international oil companies, namely Shell, BP, Jodco, and Total.

The campus has modern instructional laboratories and classroom facilities and is now in the planning phase of three major research centers on its campus. The PI is affiliated with the Colorado School of Mines, the University of Maryland (College Park), the University of Minnesota, the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria and the Montana University in Leoben, Austria. The PI is in the process of developing future working relationships with other major universities such as Rice University and the University of Texas, Austin and research institutions around the world to capitalize on joint research areas of interest. The Growth of PI is instrumental to meet the business and research needs of the fast growth of the UAE industry.
