The Graduate School of the PI

The Graduate School was established in 2011 with the mission to manage and direct graduate studies at PI in order to provide quality services that contribute to the achievement of PI's strategic objectives.

The Doctoral of Philosophy Programs (PhD)

The Doctor of Philosophy programs at the PI facilitates research and development that foster innovative solutions to challenges in science, technology and engineering. The programs are designed to attract high-caliber students with interest in cutting-edge research. The programs consist of specialized core and elective courses and include supervised research leading to the PhD dissertation. The PI offers PhD programs in:

  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Petroleum Geosciences

The Master of Engineering Programs (MEng):

The Master of Engineering programs at PI are for engineers with interest in pursuing advanced studies and intend to have a professional career in industry. Graduate courses emphasize applications of fundamental engineering concepts to industrial problems. The MEng programs consist of graduate core and elective courses and research work that culminates in a project report. The program also teaches advanced technical and business management concepts. The PI offers MEng degrees in:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Health, Safety and Environmental Engineering (Part-Time)
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering

The Master of Science Programs (M.Sc.):

The Master of Science programs at the PI is for students interested in research either through a future PhD degree or through employment in a corporate environment.  The MSc programs consist of graduate core and elective courses and research work that culminates in a master thesis project. The PI offers MSc programs in:

Visiting Ph.D. Program

Petroleum Institute welcomes highly qualified PhD students from international universities to work on specific research projects under the supervision of a PI faculty member.  Qualified students should consult the PI faculty of their choice or the Graduate School for further details.   Positions are available for both UAE national and non-UAE national students.
