20/Oct/2011: WISE Program Best Practice receives special commendation from the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation
The initiative to hold an annual ‘Academic Integrity Week’ for the WISE Program Community has been highly commended by the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation.
The Commission for Academic Accreditation is concerned with quality standards in institutions of higher learning in the UAE. The Commission hosts a database of good practices in UAE higher education.
Good practices must meet the Commission’s standards, and are expert-reviewed before acceptance. The intention is to promote and disseminate best practice across the country’s institutions of higher learning.

‘Academic Integrity Week’ was initiated in 2010 by a team of four WISE Program students, as part of their Communication 101 course: Mariam Al Mahri, Mashael Al Shehhi, Amal Al Shehhi and Mazna Al Obaidi. With the guidance and encouragement of WISE Program Director Dr Nadia Alhasani and Assistant Program Director Dr Caroline Brandt, the initiative has expanded into a highly regarded and much anticipated annual event that includes workshops, invited speakers, book displays, honor pledge signing and a range of other activities.
Consequently the WISE Program Team was delighted to learn that the initiative has been commended by the Commission, who observed that:
Academic Integrity is a major issue for all institutions around the world – the differentiating factor is how each of those institutions deals with the problem. This submission is a really imaginative approach based on a positive and public celebration of honesty and integrity.

The WISE Program TEAM is already looking forward to next year’s event. In the meantime, WISE Program students continue to live up to the high expectations of their faculty and leaders with regard to demonstrating integrity in all aspects of their work.
