26.4: A SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENT TO BE RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONALLY
Mr. Hussain Al-Hashimi, a senior Mechanical Engineering student will receive an international award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) as part of the 17th Student Paper Competition conducted by the ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping division (ASME PVP). Mr. Al-Hashimi will receive the award in the upcoming ASME PVP conference that will be held in Prague, Czech Republic from July 26 – 30, 2009. This competition is an annual event where BS/MS and PhD students from around the world submit papers from their research work and only nine finalists get selected (Five from the BS/MS and four from the PhD categories).
His paper, entitled “Experimental Study and Numerical Simulation of Domes Under Wind Load,” was extracted from his research work performed for the senior design course undertaken during the academic year of 2008/2009 under the supervision of Dr. Abdennour Seibi and Mr. Arman Molki.
Mr. Al-Hashimi will be awarded with free conference registration along with a $1,000 reward and a certificate during a luncheon on July 29, 2009. Furthermore, Mr. Al-Hashimi will compete for an additional $1000 which will be awarded to the presenting author of the Outstanding Student Paper.
This achievement demonstrates the dedication and diligence of the student and his advisors Dr. Abdennour Seibi and Mr. Arman Molki as well as their commitment to top quality work and promoting the PI on an international level. It should be noted that this is the second time in a row that students working under the supervision of Dr. Abdennour Seibi have been selected as finalists in the ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Student Paper competition.
