Senior Vice President and Provost.
Dear Staff and Faculty,
Welcome Back and Happy Eid,
I am honored to be selected as the senior vice president and provost for PI starting fall 2010. The position comes with great challenges and huge responsibility but I am sure we can work together to realize our dream and achieve our mission and be globally recognized as the best regional petroleum based institute.
In my capacity as the senior vice president and provost, I invite you to join me in:
- Getting everybody involved in further cultivating and growing the PI from its well-established foundations adhering to the known fundamental academic values and to the highest academic standards
- Developing and advancing the PI academic vision and mission and drafting a five-year strategic plan with international accreditation as a central part of it
- Supporting and promoting diversity and maintaining collegial and cordial atmosphere throughout the institution
- Recruiting exceptional new faculty members and overseeing their retention to enhancing quality research and strengthening both graduate and undergraduate teaching
- Renaming the PI as a university of petroleum and applied sciences to reflect the public perception of the PI and the prevailing culture
- Activating and encouraging appropriate professional development for both faculty and staff and building a community of scholars
- Improving academic advising and counseling for new and returning students
- Improving student recruitment and retention for national male and female students and determining how best to meet their educational needs
- Getting students involved in the decision making process and on planning of activities and selecting of relevant services
- Maintaining strong and effective relationship with alumni and emphasizing PI partnership with industry
- Focusing PI resources for excellence and improving the quality of student services and student activities
- Fostering stronger collaboration with PI international partners and developing collaboration with local institutions
- Giving much attention to the whole scheme of scholarships, from undergraduate and graduate to the scholarship of teaching, research, creativity and distinguished work
- Writing a PI constitution for its rules and procedures which can survive individual personnel turnover
To perform the list of tasks presented above, I will:
- Strengthen PI interaction with ADNOC and its subsidiaries
- Delegate authority with responsibility to empower faculty and staff to excel with their areas
- Make myself both accessible and approachable to students, parents, staff and faculty
- Meet regularly with faculty boards, staff groups and students
- Have a lot of interaction and dialogue with PI partners and customers, alumni, and industry leaders
Our task is difficult but the team is strong. I look forward to a very rewarding and a very successful year.
A word of thanks and appreciation goes to the Chairman of the PI Governing Board and ADNOC CEO, HE Yousef Omeir Bin Yousef and the distinguished members of the PI Governing Board for their tremendous support to PI to fulfill its mission and to realize its goals.
