26/Dec/2010: The Gas Processing & Materials Science Research Centre (GRC) at the Petroleum Institute (PI) has been launched officially with the 1st GRC Steering Committee meeting on December 16th at GASCO.

This centre of gas is established based on the R&D support agreement by and among Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, The Petroleum Institute, Shell Abu Dhabi B.V., PARTEX Gas Corporation and Total S.A. This centre will be embedded in the ADNOC PI R&D (ADPIRC) organization and will be governed by a seven member steering committee chaired by the ADNOC PI R&D Director. In this meeting, the GRC Director Prof. Cor Peters was confirmed as the CRC Director, Dr. Zara Khatib, Chief Technologist representing Shell’s ISH Senior Staff, and the Total and Partex Chaired professors : Dr. Yves Gunalton and Dr. Jorge Gomes.
The mission of the GRC is to develop, build and strengthen PI’s Applied Research Capabilities and GASCO’s Technology know-how to address current and emerging gas challenges and promote the safe and efficient operation of GASCO. The strategy of the centre is that GRC shall be a fully operational “Centre of Excellence” within the ADNOC PI Research Centre (ADPIRC) by:
- Providing leading technology/research solutions through deployment of applied research & technology
- Leveraging the experience and technology know-how of ISH partners (Partex, Shell & Total)
- Developing the PI Research and Technical Service capacity
- Focusing on career development of national faculty and researchers
- Attracting distinguished professors and world class researchers & students to PI
The prioritised GASCO strategic themes for R&D projects include: Gas processing and gas treating, materials science and corrosion, advanced dynamic process simulation & control and energy efficiency and environmental technology.
