14/04/2011: Senior undergraduate students visit Malaysia.

A group of senior undergraduate students from the Petroleum Institute visited Malaysia during the spring break. The trip included an official visit to the University Technology PETRONAS, an educational entity which, similar to the Petroleum Institute, is sponsored by a national oil company. The aim of the visit was to strengthen the relations between the two universities in order to open the doors for any possible future collaboration that would benefit both universities in terms of research and education. Dr. Sami Ainane and Mr. Elshafie Hassan from student affairs accompanied the students during the trip.
Upon arrival to the university, students were welcomed by the university representatives who gave an overview of the university and its mission. Dr. Sami Ainane spoke about the PI. Then, students were given a tour of the campus which included visiting the various facilities of the university such as the labs and the library. The students visited many of the university students on campus and shared their experiences.
The trip to Malaysia also included visits to Kuala Lumpur, Penang Island and Langkawi Island. Students had an unforgettable time in Kuala Lumpur where they visited many places such as the King’s Palace, the National Mosque and many other sites in the city such as the twin towers and China town. Students learned about the city and its history and gained cultural experience. Many of the students couldn’t help but notice the kindness and hospitality of the Malaysian people.
In Penang Island, students had a great time where they visited many places in the island.
The final stop in this trip was Langkawi Island. The group arrived from Penang Island after a 3 hour boat trip. The island was stunning. Students were amazed by the breathtaking scenery and the beautiful beaches. The group had a great time exploring the various locations of the Island such as the fish farms, the bat cave and the aquarium. The students took the chance and relaxed at the beautiful beaches, swam and played beach sports.
The group returned to Abu Dhabi with many beautiful memories of an unforgettable trip that will be remembered for the rest of their lives. They are refreshed and ready to continue the few credit hours they have left before they graduate and become great engineers.
