18.03: Mathematics & Science League PI Tournament 2010
The second math & sciences tournament took place on March 18th, 2010, and was hosted at the Petroleum Institute. The event was a great success, and everybody enjoyed themselves. Taking part were fifty-two students from the Glenelg School in Abu Dhabi. Twenty-nine female students contested for prizes at the Arzanah campus, whilst simultaneously, twenty-three male contestants entered into combat at the PI’s male campus.
The tournament involved 75 minutes of individual-based events and a 75 minute of team event. The itinerary of the competition was as follows:
- 25 minute individual chemistry round
- 25 minute individual physics round
- 25 minute individual mathematics round
- Lunch for the contestants and organizers/helpers
- 75 minute team round involving a mix of physics, chemistry & math questions
- Refreshments
- Prize giving ceremony.
On the male campus the occasion was marked with the presentation of prizes by the Provost & Acting President of the PI, Dr. Michael Ohadi. Also present at the awards ceremony was Dr. Dennis Siginer, Chair of the College of Arts & Sciences.
On the female campus, the presentation of prizes was performed by Dr. Nadia Al Hasani, Director of the Women in Science and Engineering at the PI.

The questions set for the competition were of a challenging level and certainly stretched the students. Nonetheless, the participants found the event to be stimulating and agreed that they had all gained from the experience.
