On Saturday 26 April 2008 The Petroleum Institute played host to the 6th UAE MathDay. The UAE MathDay is an annual celebration of mathematics and an important event on the calendar of mathematicians and educators of mathematics from across the region and beyond.
With over 100 delegates in attendance, including a number of distinguished guests, the one day event consisted of a number of invited speakers and contributed talks. Three conference plenary lecturers were delivered by the following internationally recognised mathematicians from Europe: Professor Antoine Henrot (Nancy, France), Professor Paul Embrechts (Zürich, Switzerland), and Professor Henrik Shahgholian (Stockholm, Sweden); while contributed talks from conference delegates in the areas of differential equations, geometry, algebra, applied mathematics, numerical analysis, analysis, mathematics education and the history of mathematics formed the parallel sessions.
Participates of the conference were treated to the state-of-the-art facilities which Arzanah building has to offer and it was the first time the Female Campus has played host to a major regional event.
