The Petroleum Institute (PI) in Abu Dhabi, UAE, is organizing a symposium on Engineering Ethics April 13 –14, 2011. The overall purpose of the symposium is to further discussion and understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of ethics in engineering. Three major themes are to be addressed:

  • Engineering Ethics in Society
  • Engineering Ethics in Academia
  • Engineering Ethics in Practice (or Industry)

Specifically, presentations are sought that examine ways of increasing awareness of ethics and professionalism, address means for furthering our understanding of the moral responsibilities of engineers, and highlight the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context.
The symposium will include two internationally known keynote speakers and eight panel sessions. Abstracts are encouraged to address one of the three conference themes; however abstracts will also be considered in a general category. The symposium is a nonprofit event.
